As tech layoffs and job insecurity have mounted in recent years, we've noticed an unmistakable trend in media coverage of layoffs, firings, and other "reductions in force" in our industry. More often than not, press coverage focuses on a company's financials and the impact reductions in employment will have on a company's stock price. All typically garnished with some quotes from corporate executives, and maybe a stock analyst or two. It is rare to find coverage of IT layoffs that actually discusses the impact of such events on laid-off workers and their families. And even rarer to find articles that actually quote IT workers. With this in mind, we want to hear your personal stories -- both your struggles and your successes. Whether it be coping with a layoff, trying to find affordable health care, or how you found work in a tight job market, tell your story here. |
